HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College head men's lacrosse coach David Olliver announced the addition of James Brugger, Ethan Irizarry, Robert Shields Jr., and Benton Soule to the 2017-18 roster.
Brugger attends Lake Norman High School, where he was a member of the lacrosse team for the Wildcats. Brugger, a defenseman, was a junior varsity defensive MVP for Lake Norman and led his team to a North Carolina state runner-up finish. The Mooresville, N.C. native has accumulated a 3.98 GPA throughout his high school career and is the son of James and Keri Brugger.
Irizarry attends Mainland Regional High School, where he was a member of the football, basketball, and lacrosse teams for the Mustangs. Irizarry, a midfielder, was named to the First Team All-Press and First Team All-CAL squads. In addition, Irizarry earned the two-way player of the year Coaches Award. Ethan is the son of Eddie Irizarry, Sandy Eyde, and Joe Eyde.
Shields attends Camden Military Academy, where he was a member of the football and lacrosse teams for the Spartans. Shields, a midfielder, earned the Coaches Award for his efforts as a member of the football team and was named offensive MVP for the lacrosse team. The Mooresville, N.C. native is the son of Bobby and Meredith Shields. Robert plans to major in business when he arrives on the campus of Coker College.
Soule attends Hilton Head Island High School, where he was a member of the football and lacrosse teams for the Seahawks. Soule, a midfielder, is the son of Frank and Kelly Soule, and plans to major in Criminology.
When asked about his recent spring commits, head coach David Olliver said, "I am extremely excited about what these players bring to our team and the contributions they will make along with our core returners. These signees will bring balance on both ends of the field and add depth for our team. I can't wait for these guys to arrive on campus."
