MEN'S SOCCER VOTED 9TH IN USCA DII PRESEASON NATIONAL POLL
COBRAS RANKED IN PRESEASON NATIONAL TOP 10 FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SCHOOL HISTORY
Kansas City, MO - New year, new coach, and new players - but the expectations for the Cobras stay the same. For the first time in school history, Coker Men's Soccer finds itself in the Top 10 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Association DII Preseason National Poll, slotting in at 9th!
Last season, the Cobras finished 15-3-1, finishing as the Co-Regular Season Champions in the South Atlantic Conference. Newly-appointed head coach Stephen Magennis is looking to take this team to the same heights, signing over 30 new student-athletes to remain competitive, both in the SAC and nationally.
The only other SAC team showing up in the national rankings is Mars Hill, which is "receiving votes". Three other familiar foes that the Cobras faced last season, Francis Marion (RV), Auburn-Montgomery (21), and Lynn (1), also show up in the national poll. The Cobras defeated FMU 2-0 in the regular season and AUM 3-2 in the NCAA Round of 32. Lynn, who tops the list, defeated the Cobras 1-0 in the NCAA Sweet 16 en route to a DII National Championship.
The Cobras will look to prove that they are worthy of their preseason ranking when their season kicks off on September 4th, traveling to take on North Georgia. Their home opener will take place on September 10th, hosting Carson-Newman for the first SAC contest of the year. For the full release by the United Soccer Coaches Association, click here.
