Cobra Tennis has Excellent Showing at Conference Carolinas Individual Tournament

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's and women's tennis teams recently competed in the 2011 Conference Carolinas Individual Tournament held at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.

The Cobras had an excellent showing with two standing out above the rest, Guillermo Aylon (Zaragoza, Spain) and Cora Berna (Torrievieja, Spain).

Aylon captured the men's B flight singles championship by defeating Lucas Guinski of Limestone College 6-4, 7-6. His championship is just the second individual tennis championship in the history of Coker tennis.

Berna advanced to the women's A flight singles championship match and nearly gave the Cobras a pair of singles champions, but she came up just short in the final match. She lost to Corin Hallman of Erskine College 6-2, 7-5.

In all it was a very exciting tournament for the Cobras and their new head coach Tom Simpson, as the future looks very bright for this group of tennis players.

The Cobras will begin their championship season in the spring semester with their first matches in February 2012.
