HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Joao Victor Santos was named to the inaugural Off The Block/Springbak All-IVA (Independent Volleyball Association) Team, the media outlet announced today. Santos was selected as an opposite hitter on the six-member team.
Santos, an opposite hitter from Brasilia, Brazil, has had an excellent season for the Navy and Gold. The sophomore has played in 19 matches and led the Cobras in kills with 201. Santos is in the nation's top 20 in kills per set, averaging 3.41 and has double-digit kills in 11 matches, including a season-high 26 kills in a victory over Alderson Broaddus on Feb. 11. In addition to his offensive efforts, Santos has made significant contributions on the defensive side of the ball, coming in at third on the team in digs (80) and total blocks (36).
The Coker opposite hitter was named the SPC Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of January. Santos is a business major and is the son of Nubia Oliveria and Joao Santos.
