FAIR SETS SINGLE-SEASON STOLEN BASES RECORD IN LOSSES TO TROJANS

How It Happened:
Game 1: Despite what the final score says, this one started off as a defensive battle. Anderson scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, but Coker answered right back with a solo shot in the bottom of the second to even this one up 1-1 heading into the third inning of play. After a scoreless inning, the Trojans went on a run in the fourth and fifth innings when they scored ten runs in that time span. Trailing 11-1, Mya Cribbs hit a three-run homer that scored herself, Sarah Bryant, and Savanah Fowler to keep this game going in the bottom of the fifth. Trailing 12-4 in the bottom of the seventh, they tried to mount a comeback of epic proportions. Cheyenne Palmer hit a bases-clearing double to score Fair and Emma Rushing, followed by Madie Andrews putting a ball in play that scored Palmer. Unfortunately, that was it for the game as Anderson took Game 1.
Game 2: It was a back-and-forth early on between the two sides. Anderson went up 2-0 in the top of the first, but the Cobras got two back in the bottom of the first and second. The first run came when Rushing put a ball in play to help score Fair, followed by Payton Brigman scoring on a wild pitch to even it up at 2-2. It was a big top of the third for the Trojans as they scored four to head up 6-2, but the Cobras got two back in the bottom of the third to bring it back within two. Andrews hit an RBI single that scored Rushing to make it 6-3, followed by Cribbs drawing a walk with the bases loaded to score Andrews to make it 6-4. From there, it was a great close to the game for the Trojans as they walked away victorious.
Notables:
- As mentioned previously, Fair set the record for single-season steals by a Coker Softball player. She also holds the program record for career steals, giving opposing teams loads of problems on the base paths.
- Today was senior day as we honored Fair, Andrews, Delaney Eaves, and Maddie Newsome. These four have set a precedent that the current team can continue to build on, and we can't be more proud!
Up Next:
The Cobras will head to Salisbury, NC, for their final games of the year to take on the Catawba Indians on Friday. The first pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET.
