How It Happened:
Game 1: This one was a rollercoaster ride, with Catawba heading up 3-0 in the first two innings before the Cobras surged in the tops of the third, fourth, and fifth. During that three-inning stretch, the Cobras scored seven runs to take a commanding 7-3 lead over the Catawba Indians. Catawba was able to get two back in the bottom of the fifth to make this 7-5, and that was the score headed into the bottom of the seventh. In that half inning, Catawba got those two runs they needed to keep this one alive and send this to extra innings. With a rule in the extra innings, a runner was placed out at second, and that was Savanah Fowler for the Cobras in the top of the eighth. Palmer advanced her over with a bunt single, and Delaney Eaves hit a sacrifice fly to score her to take the lead at 8-7. Unfortunately for the Cobras, the Catawba Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to walk it off in extras.
Game 2: The game started off extremely well for Catawba, scoring the first six runs to take the commanding lead. Fair came up clutch in the top of the fifth to get the Cobras on the board with a two-run bomb that scored herself and Mya Cribbs. The Catawba Indians scored another in the bottom of that same inning and finished this one out strong defensively to give them a win.
Final Notes:
The Cobras end their season in this series with a young team that has a lot of potential moving forward. Many of the games this season had freshmen and sophomores as over half of the lineup, which shows great promise for the future of the program. We would like to give a special shoutout to Fair, Madie Andrews, Delaney Eaves, and Maddie Newsome, who are the seniors in this group and saw the field for the last time in their careers today. We thank you for everything and wish you nothing but the best in life!
