COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The Coker College men's track and field team enjoyed yet another record-breaking weekend at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia on Friday (Feb. 1) and Saturday (Feb. 2)
Sage Lilly set the school's 400-meter record with a time of 50.18, beating his own record set at the South Atlantic Conference Championships last year. Mahari Green wasn't far behind with a personal best time of 50.86.
Brandon Mullins narrowly missed his own 800-meter record with a time of 1:55.75. Mullins now owns all top ten 800-meter times in school history.
Perhaps one of the most impressive performances of the afternoon came in the 200-meter where Sage Lilly, Malik Tarbel, Murishi Irankunda, and Mahari Green all posted impressive times within just 0.20 seconds of each other. Lilly led the way with the fourth-fastest time in school history at 22.66, and then Tarbel at 22.82, Irankunda at 22.84, and Green at 22.86.
The Cobras saved their best for last, breaking the 4x400 relay record by nearly four seconds. Green, McElveen, Mullins, and Lilly combined for the record time of 3:21.66.
The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 16) when they travel back to Columbia for the USC Open. Events are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
