KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Coker women’s golf team opened their 2011 spring season with some stiff competition at the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, with five teams in the field ranked in the Top 20 in NCAA Division II women’s golf.

The Cobra women earned a top 20 finish with a 17th place finish. Nationally ranked No. 2 Florida Southern University took home the top spot, with No. 17 Rollins College coming in second and Conference Carolinas foe Belmont Abbey College was third.

Individually, Krista Thorpe (Bracebridge, Ontario) was the leading golfer for the Cobras with a two round total of 181 (87-94). Bobbi McKenzie (McBee, S.C.) was next with a score of 186 (94-92), followed by Natalie Falco (Stoughton, Mass.) at 188 (91-97) and Megan Tingen (Hartsville, S.C.) at 207 (105-102).

The Cobras next tournament will be on Feb. 21-22 at the St. Andrews Invitational in Vass, N.C.
