HISTORY MADE: TWO WOMEN'S TENNIS ATHLETES RANKED TOP TEN IN REGIONAL RANKINGS
Tempe, AZ - For the first time in program history, the Cobras have both doubles and singles athletes ranked in the ITA DII Southeast Regional Rankings! Senior Jade Bellegy is ranked as the 10th-best singles athlete in the region and partners with fellow senior Emerson Banning to round off the 10th-best doubles pair in the region.
It was a great fall for the Cobras in general, but specifically for Bellegy and Banning. On the singles side, Bellegy captured a singles title at the Cayce Invitational, appeared in the final at the Coker Invitational, and logged a round of 16 appearance at the ITA Fall Southeast Regional tournament. She came up against the number one ranked singles player in the Sweet Sixteen and battled until the very end before falling in straight sets. To end the season, she also went undefeated at the Belmont Abbey Invitational.
The pairing of Banning and Bellegy had just as successful of a Fall slate, appearing in an all-Coker doubles final at the Cayce Invitational, winning the Coker Invitational, and recording solid results at the ITAs. They were the fourth seed at that ITA Tournament but fell to the doubles pairing from Flagler who made a run to the final and is currently ranked third. Just like Bellegy in singles, they also finished the Belmont Abbey Invitational undefeated.
Bellegy and Banning will look to not only prove their ranking but also move up the ladder come springtime. They, along with the rest of the Cobras, will look to kick off what could be a historic campaign on Saturday, February 1st here on campus. They will play on their newly resurfaced courts starting at 1 PM ET against the Bearcats of Lander.
