Spartanburg, S.C. – The Coker volleyball snapped their 19 match losing streak on Friday night with a 3-1 win over Converse College in Conference Carolinas volleyball action. The Lady Cobras won the first set of the match 25-13, but Converse bounced back with a 25-20 win in the second set. Coker would not be out done winning sets three and four 25-22 and 25-17. The win marks the first conference win for the Lady Cobras this season. Coker won just one conference match last season as well, defeating Converse last season as well.
“The streak is over,” said Coach Jon Stenman. “It has been a long time coming. The girls have fought hard all season and they finally came together as a team tonight and we got the win.”
The win improves the Lady Cobras to 2-21 overall, and 1-11 in the conference.
Leading the Coker offense was Kristin Teets (Columbia, S.C.) with 13 kills, while Lisa Ross (Bowling Green, Ky.) had nine kills and April Griggs (Bishopville, S.C.) had eight kills. Abbey Frame (Sylvania, Ohio) had a double-double 22 assists and 18 digs, with Molly Bookhart (Orangeburg, S.C.) also netting a double-double with 15 assists and 15 digs. Cynallyhia Indriago (Columbia, S.C.) also had 14 digs for the Lady Cobras.
Coker returns to the floor on Tuesday, Oct. 20, when they travel to Florence, S.C. to take on cross-town rival Francis Marion University at 7:00 p.m. in a non-conference match.
