Cobras Complete Running Eagle Classic with 4-0 Record
The Coker College women's volleyball team capped off day two of the Running Eagle Classic by winning a thrilling 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 18-16) match over Life University and defeating Brenau University 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17).
MARIETTA, Ga. - The Coker College women's volleyball team capped off day two of the Running Eagle Classic by winning a thrilling 3-2 (25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 23-25, 18-16) match over Life University and defeating Brenau University 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17).
The Cobras defeated Columbia College 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-18) and Reinhardt University 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-23) during day one of the Running Eagle Classic.
In the first set against Life University, Coker grinded out a tight 25-23 victory. The Cobras led 24-19 when Life University stormed back to make the score 24-23 in favor of Coker. However, the Cobras crushed any chances of a comeback with a kill from Alexis Berles.
Life University won the second set with a 25-16 final score, but the Cobras responded by edging Life 25-23 in the third. Coker held a slim 24-23 advantage when Bethany Prochnow added the set-winning point from a powerful kill.
The Running Eagles evened the match score at two sets a piece with a fourth set victory. Once again, Coker answered by coming out on the top in the fifth and final set by an 18-16 score.
Both teams exchanged points during the fifth set and were tied 16-16. The Cobras buckled down and tallied the next two points with a service ace from Christen Bragg and an attack error committed by the Running Eagles for the match victory.
Christen Bragg led the way offensively for Coker with a team leading 14 kills and two service aces.
In their final match of the Running Eagle Classic, the Cobras and Brenau headed to the third set tied 1-1. With the score notched up at 22 apiece, Coker received three clutch kills from Alexis Berles, Madison Bingle, and Christen Bragg for the set victory.
The Cobras used a pair of four point scoring streaks in the fourth set to take a 24-17 lead. Next, Brenau committed a service error for set and match winning point.
Madison Bingle was an offensive force in the match collecting 14 kills. On the defensive end, Bethany Prochnow provided five blocks and Kara Overholt gathered 18 digs.
The Cobras improved to 4-0 after their impressive performance in the Running Eagle Classic. Coker will take the court again on Sept. 8, when they host Anderson at 6 p.m.
