LAURINBURG, N.C. – A four-run eighth inning propelled the Coker baseball team to a 5-1 win over St. Andrews in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday (Mar. 5) afternoon. With the win the Cobras improve to 10-6 overall.
After giving up a run in the fourth inning, the Cobras tied the game in the top of the seventh. They then plated four runs in the top of the eighth to take a 5-1 lead and the eventual win.
Coker threw eight different pitchers during the nine-inning affair. Korbin Causey (1-0) picked up win with a scoreless and hitless inning of relief work.
At the plate Tyler Bires, Sammy Song and Chase Spivey collected two hits and drove in a run each, while Ernie Kirkwood and Jarren Donato each drove in a run as well for the Cobras.
The Cobras will return to the diamond on Friday (Mar. 7) and Saturday (Feb. 8) when they host Lenoir-Rhyne in a three-game South Atlantic Conference series. Game one is scheduled to begin on Friday at 2 p.m.
