GREENEVILLE, TENN. – The Coker Cobras suffered a heartbreaking 9-6 loss to the Tusculum Pioneers in 10 innings on Saturday (Mar. 29) night in South Atlantic Conference baseball action.
After a nearly four hour rain delay the Cobras wasted no time getting on scoreboard, as they plated five runs in the opening stanza. They added their sixth and final run an inning later, while the Pioneers added a run of their own in the second inning as well. Tusculum added a run in the bottom of the fifth, and four more in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at six. The game remain tied into the tenth inning where Tusculum completed the comeback with a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom half of the inning for a 9-6 victory.
Andrew Goot (1-3) was tagged with the loss. He allowed four runs on six hits with five strikeouts in 3.1 innings of relief work.
Sammy Song, Jarren Donato and Fico Kondla each picked up two hits at the plate, with Song driving in and scoring a run. Ernie Kirkwood drove in two runs and scored a run, while T.J. Giczkowski and Even Rybicki each drove in a run as well.
The Cobras and Pioneers will complete their three-game SAC series on Sunday (Mar. 30) with a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. at Tusculum's Pioneer Park.
