Cobras Fall in Another Heartbreaking 5-Setter

WISE, VA.- Coker volleyball lost another heartbreaker in five sets on Friday night at UVA Wise. Wise claimed the South Atlantic Conference match inside the Quillen Court in the David J. Prior Convocation Center: 25-17, 27-25, 14-25, 22-25, 16-14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1: UVA Wise jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never trailed. Coker cut the deficit to one on a few occasions, including 15-14, but the Cavaliers closed out the set strong, scoring 10 of the final 13 points to take the opener.
Set 2: Coker grabbed the early advantage and led 6-4 before Wise answered with five straight points. The Cobras battled back to tie the score at 11-11, but the Cavaliers pulled ahead 17-15. Coker then surged ahead with a 6-0 run to take control. Wise, however, staved off five set points and rallied to win the set with back-to-back scores.
Set 3: The Cobras dominated the third set from start to finish. After Wise tied it at 3-3, Coker scored four of the next five points and never looked back. A decisive 11-0 run sealed the set, highlighted by two service aces from Addie Bittner and three kills and a solo block from Cayla Gilmore. Coker hit .400 in the set.
Set 4: Coker trailed 22-19 after a 4-0 run by Wise, but the Cobras closed with six straight points to force a decisive fifth set. Bittner served throughout the run, while Alyssa Carey notched two kills and Leah Pimentel contributed a pair of solo blocks to cap the comeback.
Set 5: Coker opened the final set with a 4-2 lead, but Wise answered with seven straight points to move ahead 9-4. The Cobras responded with six consecutive points to reclaim the lead, yet the Cavaliers closed strong, taking six of the last nine points to earn the match victory.

Coker turns right around to face Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. The South Atlantic Conference match inside Shuford Arena will begin at 2 PM and can be viewed on the FloSports Network.
